Katong and Joo Chiat are known for their Peranakan shophouses and terrace houses, along with some of the best-loved food in Singapore. Tanjong Rhu, closer to the city, looks over the Kallang Basin and the Singapore Sports Hub.
The Thomson-East Coast Line now runs through the area, with stations at Tanjong Rhu, Katong Park, Tanjong Katong, Marine Parade, Marine Terrace, Siglap and Bayshore. Many homes that once felt far from a station no longer do.
